That bottle of drain cleaner under the sink is tempting when a drain slows. But caustic chemical cleaners often cause more harm than the clog they're fighting.
Chemical drain cleaners work by generating heat through a caustic reaction. That heat can soften and warp PVC, corrode metal pipe and the chrome on your fixtures, and — if it doesn't clear the clog — leave a pipe full of dangerous liquid for the next person who opens it.
Even when a chemical cleaner opens a drain temporarily, it does nothing about roots, grease buildup, or a pipe defect. The clog comes back, and now the pipe is damaged too.
Mechanical cleaning removes the blockage physically without harming the pipe, and a camera inspection finds the real cause if the problem keeps returning. It's safer and it actually lasts.
